A campaign coordinator for Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party has exposed as a former activist for the far-right, fascist British National Party in a report in the Manchester Evening News.
Farage met President Donald Trump during the U.S. president’s state visit to the U.K. this week, and tweeted afterwards: “Good meeting with President Trump – he really believes in Brexit and is loving his trip to London.”
The Brexit official, Kevin Moore, was appointed as campaign coordinator for the Brexit Party in Merseyside in May 2019. A decade earlier, he had stood as a BNP candidate in the European elections in Warwickshire, and described himself as a ‘British National Party Activist’ on an online blog, where he said the aim of the BNP was to “secure a future for the indigenous people of these islands.”
Farage’s Brexit Party could win its first seat in Westminster when the eastern English city of Peterborough goes to the polls on Thursday to elect a new member of parliament.
The Brexit Party, launched only in April, swept to victory in the United Kingdom’s European Parliament election last month, riding a wave of anger over Prime Minister Theresa May’s failure to deliver Brexit on time.
Almost three years since Britain voted 52% to 48% to leave the European Union, lawmakers remain at loggerheads over how, when or even whether to leave the EU. May is quitting after failing to get her Brexit deal approved and the prospect of a “no-deal” exit has become central to the battle in her ruling Conservative Party to replace her.
Blaiklock also frequently reposted tweets by former leading BNP figure and neo-Nazi Mark Collett, including his claims that there is a “white genocide” taking place in Britain. Collett, a regular collaborator with U.S. white supremacist David Duke, has described the Holocaust as “the alleged extermination of six million Jews.”
A Brexit Party Spokesperson said they had been “entirely unaware” of Moore’s links to the BNP, and that their vetting process “relies in part on the honesty of those we vet.”
Moore has now been fired from his role in the Brexit Party.
Challenged on Twitter, Moore stated in a now-protected tweet that he had “run a mile” when he had found out about the BNP’s “institutionalized racism within the whole of the party.” He stated that Farage’s Brexit Party was aware of his previous BNP affiliation: “They knew. I never hid it.”
